The insect-eating plant, Shivanahalli, 171010

October 17, 2010

I’d gone with Girish and for the 3rd Sunday bngbirds outing, this time from the Ramakrishna Ashram, Shivanahalli, on into the Bannerghatta forest area. The highlight for me, was Harsha spotting this wonderful

Sundew or Drosera (from the Greek for “dew of the sun”) plant

…a tiny plant that’s insectivorous!

They are very small, but there were many of them growing on the moist, rain-course surfaces and mossy rock-pools on the sheet rock: many sundew plants 171010

If you look carefully, you can see the insects that have fallen into the “dew trap”!

is Karthik’s note about the plant.

I’ll be posting some more sights from the outing next.
