From VV’s garden, I could see this tree which seemed to have

instead of leaves…

A common bird around San Diego is the CALIFORNIA TOWHEE I got what Mary Dueren of the St.Louis Audubon Society has provisionally id'd for me as the CACTUS WREN Update...Mary says this is the Bewick's Wren. Here's one, sitting on a Torrey Pine: and its closeup: I got it singing beautifully: I saw this Hawk, and I am waiting for word on whether it's a Cooper's (more likely!) or a Sharp-shinned Hawk: This WRENTIT cocked its white eye at me from some bushes: I've not yet been able to id this bird: Update, Mary Dueren of the St.Louis Audubon Society says her group has finally decided it's a CANYON TOWHEE waiting for the Audubon Society response....
